The tour departed from our
Taunton classroom on Thursday 14th May at
4:00pm. We rode to the ferry terminal in Portsmouth, sailed to
St Malo France overnight, then made our way down to Mansigné (a
new location for us this year) near Le Mans
for the weekend. After the races we made the return trip Monday getting back to
Taunton on
Tuesday 19th, arriving about midday.
Fees included ferry tickets, a
double cabin onboard and overnight accommodation in the gite at Mansigné, south of Le Mans (about 20 miles west of our previous
gite). The long weekend is more about the people and
the journey than it is the racing. Have a look at the photos from
previous years, they will give you a flavour of the good time had by
all. Most important to know is than many people in the photos have
been doing the trip for years; so they must enjoy it.
The price included use of the swimming
pool etc. B-B-Qs on the Friday and on the Sunday. You needed to bring money for fuel, lunches out, Saturday's evening meal
and of course some beer money. We suggested you bring Euros, it's much
easier getting fuel etc if you use cash.

"Far from the clamour of
the towns, the Mansigné chalets village offers you all the
tranquillity of wooded pedestrian ground for your stay,
perfectly integrated into a fascinating and wild natural
setting. The chalet village is in a protected and secure
site for holidays close to nature: lakeside location, games
area for children, private swimming pool, reserved parking
space, caretaker constantly on site during the holiday
season… Children have a large play area, away from danger,
and a heated swimming pool" |

France is a great experience. Open
roads, fantastic scenery, friendly people and some of the best
riding you'll ever enjoy. French motorists are very biker friendly,
vehicles stop at roundabouts to let our convoy through and people
stand at the roadside and wave as if they've never seen bikes
before, but remember this is Le Mans weekend, there are tens of
thousands of bikes there. Some of our group go to the track to watch
practice sessions, some also go to the race but most of us spend the
few days away enjoying the rides, we don't go to the track.

For those without luggage
fitted to their bikes, don't worry, we always have a van with us to
carry bags etc, it's also there just in case anyone breaks down and
can't fix their bike at the roadside. You are advised to have full European
recovery insurance and must carry your own
luggage on the ferry. There will be bikes in the van during the
crossing. |
